Special fundraising events are held periodically to raise money to assist with student learning and activities for Cairine Wilson students.
Some of our past initiatives and events include:
Annual Holiday Craft Fair & Sale
This is Cairine Wilson S.S. Parent Council’s Premier fundraiser. Crafters are already booking their tables to show off their wares to help shoppers get ready for the holiday season. Each year we raise approximately $4500.
HOST (Help Our STudents) Program
This external program helps student who are financially challenged but excel academically. Today HOST covers a student with $100/month for 10 months of the year throughout the school year. Council has supported this initiative for the last several years.
Parents Reaching Out Series
Each year we apply for a grant from the Board specifically designed to help Councils reach out to their school community. In past years this grant allowed us to put on a variety of presentations on topics such as Equity and Diversity, Helping Kids Cope with Anxiety, Internet and Social Media Safety, Financial Literacy and more, with target audiences ranging from students to parents to teachers to community members and feeder schools.
Teacher Programming Support
Dedicated council funds are allocated to various teacher programming initiatives. Past distributions have supported or purchased the Eco-schools initiative, more outdoor education supplies, the Mini Alt program, lab probes, food for Cappies events and more.
Relay for Life
Each year the students put together relay teams in support of cancer research. Parent Volunteers support their efforts by providing food and time during the 12 hour event. In the 2017-2018 academic year over $99,000 were raised for this very worthy cause. Council is very proud to support this Student-lead initiative.
Guest Speakers
Each council meeting has a different speaker to address timely issues as they arise, including our Trustee, who tries to visit twice per year.
