Girls SySTEM Mentorship

We are Christina & Avery, and we are reaching out on behalf of Girls SySTEM Mentorship, a non-profit organization that aims at providing mentorship for students ages 12-18 so that they can further their STEM interests. We wanted to let you know about an amazing opportunity for your students. Girls SySTEM Mentorship provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing girls, in grades 7-12 with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. In doing so, participants (mentees) can gain first-hand knowledge of STEM early on in their academic careers, which we believe is vital in building the confidence to succeed in the future. Our program is based in Toronto and Kingston but because of the pandemic, our program is all virtual thus we are extending this opportunity to all students in Ontario.

Below are some of the benefits of becoming a mentee:

·One-on-one mentoring with a professional STEMist

·Access to monthly workshops and events to explore and further STEM interests

·A platform to network with other like-minded individuals

I am hoping that you would be able to promote this opportunity within your school, either through incorporating an advertisement in your class, having a poster in your space, or whatever means you are able to provide. In addition, we recently received a $10,000 grant by L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Program which will help us deliver more in-depth workshops. We have also partnered with Ada, a large tech company, to provide professional computer science and technology mentors for students. This is an exclusive opportunity we are offering this year for our participants. Students can learn more and fill out an application on our website: www.girlsystemmentorship.comApplications are due April 15th, 2022 use this link to apply:https://forms.gle/dp9wSSqjmNRpSFtm9

Lastly, we have just launched our new Discovery Stream Program, where students in grades 7-12 can explore and build the unique skills & confidence needed to prepare for the career of their dreams. Our first discovery stream is Physics and will include 3 virtual workshops led by Perimeter Institute and the University of Toronto. After participating in all 3 workshops, students will receive a certificate outlining their skills and knowledge learned from the program. Registration for the physics stream closes April 4th. More details about each workshop are on our website: https://www.girlsystemmentorship.com/discovery-stream.

Also, we’ve attached a few graphics that you can share with your students! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about our program!

Cheers,

Christina & Avery
