Summer Opportunity for Students - French as a Second Language

NEW French Language Opportunity for the Summer of 2023 and Earn Two High School Credits!: This summer, high school students can spend 3-4 weeks immersed in a French language environment in Canada to build their language skills, enjoy French cultural activities, and connect with other FSL students from across Canada. The Explore program is sponsored by the Government of Canada and offers students a Francophone experience. This credit opportunity is open to OCDSB Secondary students entering grades 10, 11 or 12 in September 2023 at any level of French (Open, Core or Immersion). Through this experiential opportunity and the completion of a language portfolio and oral interview, students will have the opportunity to earn both a French Language credit and a Travel & Tourism credit.

Have you ever wondered what a high-tech career looks like? The Nokia Future Tech Summer Internship program will give you the opportunity to explore the world of technology while you’re still a high school student – and get paid!

Our internship is an eight-week program for students currently completing grade 11 in which you will work alongside Nokia engineering teams solving real, technical problems. Over the course of the summer, you will contribute to meaningful work while receiving support and valuable lessons from a Nokia Future Tech Mentor. You will discover new possibilities and skills that will help you make an impact on the future of technology.

Young Women in Public Safety (YWPS) Program

Public Safety is excited to offer the Young Women in Public Safety (YWPS) Program again this July! We’re proud to partner once more with our portfolio agencies for this great initiative, in a virtual capacity this year!

This unique program has been created to introduce female high school students to diverse and exciting employment opportunities available in the realm of public safety and security. Through this program, we hope to inspire young women to take a leadership role in their communities and pursue a meaningful and exciting career in areas of public safety such as border security, corrections, correctional investigation, community safety, information and intelligence, policy development and more! Please note that the priority will be given to grade 11 students.

The application period for the Summer 2022 edition is open until April 4, 2022. Applications for the program must be submitted through the poster on the Federal Student Work Experience (FSWEP) website or the direct link below.

Summer Camp Opportunity

Are you looking to have fun and gain hands on work experience this summer? If you are a high school, college or university student who will be returning to school in September 2022 and are looking for experience in supporting people with disabilities, we are running a summer camp for youth and young adults with disabilities at the The Miracle League of Ottawa Baseball Field from the end of June until the end of August.

Your main duties will be supporting youth and young adults with a variety of developmental and physical disabilities in a day camp setting. You will be integral in facilitating various activities and developing their skills while providing quality care. Help foster lifelong friendships and community connections.

The camp is open from June 20th, 2022, until August 19th, 2022, and has a guarantee of 35 hours per week, Mondays to Fridays.

Some of the duties are as follows:

  • Facilitating fun and inclusive recreational and/or social activities.
  • Support individuals with daily living as required including, but not limited to, personal care-including showering, toileting, care of personal items etc.
  • Participate, implement, and support all Individual Support Plans and Behaviour Protocols to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all individuals.

Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience or education program enrollment/completion an asset.
  • Access to a vehicle an asset.
  • Must be returning to school in September 2022
  • Must have current valid CPR/First Aid training
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Check
